How Do I Get Started?
Starting your affiliate marketing business is fairly easy if you have a good understanding of the industry and the right training.
Here is a brief overview of what you will need to do to get going…
Step 1: Sign Up With an Affiliate Marketing Network
The first thing you need to do is sign up with an affiliate network. This is where you will find the products you are going to be promoting.
A few of the most popular networks:
- Amazon Associates
- Comission Junction
Step 2: Decide on Your Niche
Before choosing your niche you need to decide what market you want to go into.
The top four markets are:
After you’ve decided which market interests you the most you’ll need to pick what niche (segment of a market) you would like to go into and check to see whether it will be profitable.
Once you’ve chosen a niche, look for a specific product to promote.
Always research and if possible use the product you are promoting to be sure it is high quality.
Never say that you have used a product if you haven’t – you can get in a lot of trouble.
An easy way to do this is to break it down into 3 simple steps:
- Identify a specific problem within your niche.
- Create a website that provides information on that problem.
- Promote product(s) that will help solve the problem.
Here’s an example…
Problem: Stained or yellow teeth
Solution: Promote teeth whitening products
Make a list of keywords and search to find out what people are searching for and how many searches are being done.
You will use the results to determine whether or not your chosen niche is profitable
Use Google Keyword Planner to research different sub-niches within your niche
You can also go to Amazon to check to see how many products are available and if they are selling.
Step 3: Getting Your Website Set Up
First you need to register a domain name you can do this at name.com for about $13.
You’ll also need to set up a hosting account. HostGator.com is very reliable and cheap (about $11/month (if you pay monthly)
Note: For simplicity you can purchase your domain through Hostgator, then you won’t have to worry about changing the DNS settings.
Once your hosting account is set up, you can install wordpress on your site.
Write a list of topics you want to write about on your blog including a review of the product you chose to promote. You can use these later to come up with article ideas.
You also want to make sure you have all the legal pages that are required for your website.
Step 4: Start Building Your Email List
Create something to further educate your readers (a video, infographic, ebook, etc.) that you can give away in exchange for their emails.
Your free offer needs to be informative and provide valuable information so make sure you research your topic.
Write a series of 5-7 emails identifying the problem and solution from Step 2. Remind your subscribers of their problem, give them a few tips, then offer them a solution (the affiliate product).
Sign up for an autoresponder service and upload your email series.
Next create a sign up form for visitors to your site and add it to your blog. Then they will begin receiving your emails
Step 5: Send Traffic to Your Website
Now it’s time to start promoting your blog. Use the content you created on your blog to attract readers.
If they find your articles helpful remind them that they can receive more information by signing up for your email list.
Some ways to get traffic are:
- Create YouTube videos and leave a link to your blog/sign up form
- Post links to your content on social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Google+)
- Facebook ads
- PPC advertising
Of course there are many more ways you can promote your business but this should give you somewhere to start.
Don’t Give Up…
You shouldn’t feel too pressured to finish everything at once. It will take time especially if you are learning along the way.
Building any business takes time, be patient set goals for yourself and take things one step at a time.
Remember slow and steady wins the race.
